Funds for the Victorious Stupa - The Bodhi Stupa

Funds for the Victorious Stupa - The Bodhi Stupa of 80 Ft in height with a 30+30 Maitreya Temple at the base of Tserkarmo Monastery in Tingmosgang Village, the sacred land of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the personification of the Compassion of all Buddhas - The biggest  Stupa in Ledakh.

Our first motivation in taking the initiative to helping Khenpo K. Rangdol to raise some funds for this project was when we first attended his Bardo teaching of " The Tibetan book of the Dead " in July 2005 organized by BB Tan, Kim and Dharma friends of CAS at the Ngee Ann Cultural centre. When we first set eyes on it, we felt that we needed to help and sent out the relevant message to our Reiki graduates and Dharma friends which initally raised a total of S$388.00 was handed to Khenpo Rangdol.

A few days after the teaching, we offered dana in the form of a back, head and feet massage therapy to Khenpo Rangdol and his assistant before they left for India with which Khenpo Rangdol personally asked us to help him raise more funds as the project's fund was low and not doing well.  Khenpo K. Rangdol then mailed us a thick receipt book so that we could help to write them for relevant sponsors. When we received the receipt book, we were laughing at the thickness of it and weren't sure if we were able to complete the book and we hope not to disappoint him.....we prayed hard to the Buddhas, the Bodhisattvas and the Dharma protectors for their blessings and guidance.....and at last, we were able to complete the receipt book and within two months , we raised another amount of S$3,334.00. On 4 September 2005, we handed the donation to Khenpo Temphel ( a friend of Khenpo Rangdol) when he came to Singapore's Kong Meng San Phor kark See Monastery to co-lead the monthly Mani Chanting session on the 3 September 2005 . The grand total raised is S$4110.00.

We are deeply grateful to our evergreen supporters, their family and friends in all our Dharma projects. Our Very Special Thanks to bodhisattvas Evelyn Yiap, Philip Khong and Yan Ling for your kind help in collecting more funds from your family and friends for this cause.

May All your Wishes and Aspirations Come True and May You never be separated from the Blessings of the Triple Gem. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

The Benefits of building a Stupa and walking around it

The main purpose of building a stupa is to help sentient beings purify their negative impressions and accumulate positive impressions in order to gain merit and wisdom, both of which are prerequisites for reaching enlightenment. Building a stupa, regardless of its size, while maintaining a pure view, will clear away veils obscuring the mind, and the good impressions experienced during the construction process may result in intelligence, wisdom, and all the other high qualities.

The motivation for the construction of a stupa and the intentions of the participants and those who visit it should be directed towards the following points:

1. Maintenance of the Dharma, Buddha's liberating teachings
2. The temporary and ultimate benefit for all sentient beings
3. The continuing all-encompassing activities of the realized masters
4. Purification of obscurations and the development of all the positive qualities of  practitioners. People who live close to a stupa can make good wishes, prostrations, and offerings. Others, who are visiting, may experience a sudden moment of awareness. Simply stepping into a stupa's shadow accumulates great merit.

The Buddha stated , "These are the benefits of walking around a stupa: Free of the eight unfavorable conditions, you will be reborn into a noble family and will acquire great wealth. You'll be free of disturbing emotions such as miserliness and you will happily exercise generosity. You will look good, be attractive, have beautiful skin, and others will be happy to see you. You will have power over the world and will be a king of the Dharma. You will always attain a happy rebirth and will be enthusiastic for Buddha's teachings. After completion of your practice you will perform miracles and continue to achieve the thirty-two pure signs and the eighty physical perfections of Buddha's body."

These are only some of the benefits resulting from circumambulating a stupa; there are many more. Simply seeing or touching a stupa, or through memories of it or teachings about its qualities, walking through the shadow of a stupa or being touched by the wind that passed over it, one's life will be a happy one, ultimately resulting in awakening.

More on the Benefits of Stupas

The Stupa represents Buddha's holy mind, dharmakaya, and each part of the stupa shows the path to enlightenment. Building a stupa is a powerful means of purifying negative karma and obscurations and of accumulating extensive merit. In this way you can have realisations of the path to enlightenment and be able to do perfect work to liberate suffering beings, who equal the sky, leading them to the peerless happiness of enlightenment, which is the ultimate goal of our life.

"Success depends on how much merit you have accumulated. This applies to success in life in general, and to success in the practices that you do in order to achieve the ultimate happiness of liberation and enlightenment. The whole of your success depends on your merit.

"The benefits you receive from building a stupa equal the number of atoms of the stupa, and these benefits exist as long as the stupa exists. Sentient beings accumulate extensive merit by making offerings to holy objects, and from this merit happiness comes.

"As soon as a thangka or statue of the Buddha or stupa is completed, in that very second it becomes an object with which one can create the causes of happiness. Having one or more holy objects gives sentient beings one more opportunity to create merit.

"The purpose of making holy objects is not only so that the person who makes them can complete their collection of merit; it also gives many other sentient beings, who do not have the karma actually to meet Buddha and make offerings to him, the opportunity to make offerings to the holy body, holy speech, holy mind. In this way sentient beings make a connection with Buddha and accumulate the merit of having actually made offerings to Buddha. This connection with Buddha is very important."

"The continued existence and flourishing of the teachings of the Buddha depend upon the continued existence of the holy objects of Buddha."
