The Amitabha Sutra

Sutra of the Buddha's Teaching on Amitabha Buddha

We decided to take the initiative to help our Dharma friends, Regina and John to raise some funds for the printing of the Sutra when we received a phone message from Regina asking us for some donation. Immediately within one day of sending out the message via our mobile phone, we managed to raise S$1,180.00 from our Reiki Students and friends and family. The entire group including Regina, John and their friends and family's collective efforts has helped to raise enough funds to print 8,000 copies of the Sutra. Namo Amitoufo! Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

We would like to express our deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation for your warmest support towards this cause.

The Amitabha Sutra text is ready for your collection. Please kindly arrange with us to collect it at the new shop location at No.128b, Telok Ayer Street (near China square/Far east square), 3rd level of a shophouse unit.

The Amitabha Sutra

The Amitabha Sutra , also known as the smaller sutra, is one of the most important scriptures of Mahayana Pure Land Sect in the Buddhist religion.  It's origins can be traced back to the original speeches of the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama.  One day the Buddha was speaking to a group of monks in Northern India.  Without being asked he began to discuss another Buddha, named Amitabha, who had existed countless ages ago.  Before Amitabha had gained enlightenment he promised to create a Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, where the inhabitants would be freed from samsara , the endless cycle of birth and death, so that they could focus on attaining enlightenment.   The inhabitants would also be free from sadness and suffering, thus their path to awakening would much more simple.  The Land was of great beauty and full of wonder where many great Bodhisattvas and Buddhas live all trying to reach their own enlightenment.  In order to be born into this Land one needs to recite the name of Amitabha, Namu Amida Butsu , with a wholehearted devotion for all of his or her life on this Earth.  Then as one dies, and has been successful in fervent repetition, he or she meets Amitabha and he greets the person into the Land of Ultimate Bliss.  Although the Pure Land is not a permanent place to stay for those in it, once anyone is invited into this Pure Land they never have to worry of leaving it and coming back to this realm of pain and suffering.  Unless they want to as a Bodhisattva to try and help others reach the Pure Land or enlightenment here on this earth .
