Eradicating Negative Karma with Virtue

Water from the highest mountains will surely find its way to the sea,
through the countless obstacles of rocks and crevices, nooks and crannies.
This is the natural law of gravity.

Likewise, we will surely taste the fruits of our evil deeds,
planted as seeds now and in the past, given enough time and conditions.
This is the natural law of karma, action and reaction, cause and effect.

That is unless... the sun of our virtue is strong enough to "vaporise" in time, the water of negative karma flowing down to the sea, to reach you and me.
Doing so still accords with the law of karma.

The more water you have, the more strongly and rapidly it rushes to you, the more it can hurt you.
Ours is a race with time, with our uncertainty of what evil we have done,
and when their repercussions will ripen,
as we strengthen our virtue,
as we repent our past mindful and unmindful evil done,
as we resolve not to create fresh negative karma,
as we try to lessen negative impact.

Avoid evil.
Do good.
Purify the mind.
This is the teaching of all Buddhas.

To "beat" the law of karma, use the law.
To "rise" above it, understand it.
