"The Day After Tomorrow"... it may or may not be entertaining but it makes a crucial point about the consequences of our actions, and how we may all have to pay collectively in karma. Not only do we deplete the Earth's resources, we pollute the earth all the time... and we kill massively everyday, in the name of peace and for our dining table, generating the worst of karma big time... and the consequences never seem real enough to us! I'm glad someone made this movie and that it's a big hit. I hope it can wake more people up to the the reality of planetary karma... before its too late."

"Where will you be the day after tomorrow? It depends on what you do today. As the Buddha taught, what you will be in the future is the result of what you do now."

"Karmic payback always happens in an exact way - in how we experience life now. There is no chance involved - including the very weather you feel, which is interdependent on your actions or inactions with respect to the environment. Humans and nature are not two. In fact, humans are just a small part of nature, at its constant mercy. When humans wreck havoc on nature, nature will naturally (karmically) wreck havoc on us."

"The Day After Tomorrow" is a story of how one man's efforts in voicing and fighting for the truth can save the world. It is a story of a disaster, but also of hope, of how man united can prevent disaster. Be a green Bodhisattva today! Not tomorrow or the day after... we are running out of time."

"Just as we should cultivate more gentle and peaceful relations with our fellow human beings, we should also extend that same kind of attitude towards the natural environment. Morally speaking, we should be concerned for our whole environment."

"This, however, is not just a question of morality or ethics, but also a question of our own survival. For this generation and for future generations, the environment is very important. If we exploit the environment in extreme ways, we may receive some benefit today, but in the long run, we will suffer, as will our future generations. When the environment changes, the climatic condition also changes. When the climate changes dramatically, the economy and many other things change. Our physical health will be greatly affected. Again, conservation is not merely a question of morality, but a question of our own survival."

— His Holiness the Dalai Lama, from The Dalai Lama, A Policy of Kindness

Today, the weather goes haywire. Tomorrow, the aftermath of denial and shock. The day after tomorrow, the reality realised too late. Although an exaggerated Hollywood film about oft-ignored environmental issues neglected by the politicians and the general public, it did convey a strong message about caring for our Mother Earth.

Perhaps it is easy to push blame on the acquisitive governments for not taking enough action to protect and prevent further deterioration of the Earth's condition... out of craving for power and wealth. Or the greedy manufacturers for producing environmentally harmful materials that only further aggravate the already wounded environment, just to selfishly pocket more dough for themselves. Or the deluded media for not educating and propagating the right message to the public strongly enough. Or the ignorant consumers who buy and use environmentally-unfriendly products, thinking it is beneficial, without giving much thought of the consequences. However, aren't we the very ones above?

Global warming has become a reality but it is often swiftly brushed aside by the man on the street. Alarmingly puzzling, everyone is echoing the cliché-belief that the consequences will happen more than a century later - not in our time, as we shamelessly continue abusing the "silent" hospitality of the Earth, taxing it to its limits. It might be true that for Mother Nature to go totally "bonkers" might take a long time, but in truth, it's a gradual process - isn't it happening right here and now? Do you feel the HEAT?

The weather has become increasingly unpredictable and unstable. We had experienced one of the worst freezing winters and extremely hot summers during these few years - which already killed many people. The sea-level is constantly rising due to huge quality of melting of ice at the Antarctica. We are producing tons of non-biodegradable rubbish that not only causes pollution, but produces harmful and toxic waste that depletes the ozone layer. Plastics floating in the open ocean are endangering the ocean eco-system, and the list goes on...

Even if you are lucky enough to escape a catastrophe similar to "the day after tomorrow" in this life-time, just how sure are you that you won't be reborn here again, when all hell breaks loose in nature? If it's within your karma to deserve a future Earth of your making, you will, in one way or another, have to pay back somehow.
